January 2007
IN THIS ISSUE

Tom Peters said "Excellent firms don't believe in excellence - only in constant improvement and constant change".   2007 will be another year of change and improvement for Badger Metal Tech.

We are proud to mark the beginning of Badger Metal's 24th year in business.  This year you will see some significant changes in how you treat die cast tooling for protection from soldering.  Rest assured that Badger Metal Tech remains committed to providing this protection even though your previous source may have gone out of business.  Look to
ThermaLLifeÒ to fill these requirements.

Badger's web site was launched in 1996 and since that time has grown to over 250 pages of information.  One of the issues we have had to deal with is helping you find the

information you want quickly without spending a lot of time opening various pages.  We are pleased to announce in 2007 our new java search engine that functions much like a Google search with more changes to come.

You will find our familiar green and black button on many of our pages including our home page.  Once you click on this buttom, you can then do a specific search for any type of document, page, file, etc.  Try it.

Our goal is to help you zero in on any topic or item with a maximum of 3 mouse clicks.  If there is something specific your are looking for, just call us or email your request.  We'll get right back to you with the correct link.

Seal Groove Cracks - A costly repair in die casting can be fixing cracks that occur in deep flat areas on the die, such as sealing grooves or rib bottoms.  Welding these areas can be difficult to say the least since they do little more than compromise the original material micro structure.

A crack in this area of the die which then mirrors itself on the casting as a jagged riser can be a "first cause" reject by your customer.  These risers on the casting from

the crack can actually cut the sealing gasket or material causing the seal to leak on the finished component.

Fortunately, MetaLL ifeÒ offers you a way to not only repair (with the exception of major breakout) this condition  without welding but also affords future protection against cracking by adding a compressive stress layer to the affected area.  We recommend repeating the process as necessary to keep this type of heat checking under control.

Show me a quick way to email tooling photos or graphics that everyone can view?
Why not use Excel.  Most companies have this program and know how to use it.
INSERT PHOTO
1. Open a blank Excel spreadsheet.
2. Position your cursor and select one of the cells.
2. Choose Insert| Picture| From File.
3. Find your jpg and insert it
(choose a new cell to add another photo).
==============================
Want to annotate these photos with arrows or add text?  Simple.
1. Choose Insert , Picture, Autoshape.
2. Choose your shape, click it, then click

where you want to insert it on the photo..
3. You have a choice of arrows, balloons, callouts, and many others
4. These can be rotated and oriented on the photo/photos as you need.
5. Use your text box tool to add whatever comments you need.

Once you are done, save your file as a normal spreadsheet and send it via email.

The recipient needs only to open your attached xls Excel spreadsheet to view the photos along with your comments.  A big plus in doing it this way, is that it normally will not be placed in the recipients SPAM or Spyware Folder.
