Locks Compressive Grain
Boundaries
High heat normalizes
stresses whether they be of a tensile or compressive nature. Introduce
diffusion at the same time and the pressured gases containing the diffusion
atoms prevent the compressive grain structure from being normalized as heat
alone will do.
Photo (b) at the right
shows a resultant surface after
TooLLife
has been applied. The higher dislocation density and higher diffusion
concentration tends to lock in the compression as shown in the compression
curve (A1).
Compare this surface diffusion structure with the
photo below showing stratification of the diffusion zone and compound layer.
No compression below the zone surface is present.
