Quality and Compliance
MetaLLife and
ThermaLLife
are available
only from Badger Metal Tech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
ThermaLLife
is performed in controlled atmosphere equipment at temperatures that are below critical.
There are no changes in tolerance or size. The recipe for temperature, time, gas velocity, and composition is determined
by each type of tool steel being treated. The process is automated and computer controlled. All call outs and recipes are documented for future reference to provide assured repeatability.
-
Coupon sampling assures that the diffusion depth and compound
layer depth conform to customer requirements.
-
Certified trained and capable operators perform the
MetaLLife and
ThermaLLife
processes to assure repeatability.
We stand behind the quality of the processes performed on
your tooling and guarantee new tool customer satisfaction based on repeat applications of
MetaLLife
at specified intervals. This includes proper customer SPC of the tool
along with required proper preparation of the tool,
including steel selection, machining,
EDM procedures, and heat treatment methods prior to
MetaLLife.
Every tool receives a recorded "Receiving Inspection" to check for incoming shipping damage and to check/confirm existing
Rockwell hardness measurements both before and after heat stress tempering,
if applicable. The tooling then is thoroughly cleaned to prepare for processing and prevent contamination
while in the controlled atmosphere equipment.
MetaLL
ife is performed at room ambient conditions in a controlled environment.
Complete controls assure repeatable compliancy with no change in
tolerances. The "T" process designates specific application pressures, velocity, dwell, media size, classification, and process steps that have been researched and developed exclusively for
hot & cold work tool steels and perishable tooling. All specifications and call outs used are documented for future reference to provide the repeatability
and consistency that
only
MetaLL ife can provide.
-
Integrated
MetaLL
ife
comparison referenced lot sampled (C, A, or N) almen strips are used to assure
repeatable nondestructive compressive depth levels for each "T" process which
conforms to our reference
lambda coupon sampled X-ray measured compressive stress curves.

For
MetaLLife
we perform complete protective masking, fixturing, and plugging of core pin* and ejector holes*. Logos, part numbers, etchings, engravings, and other close tolerance dimensional areas such as sharp edges, draft angled surfaces, and possible undercut areas are protected and masked, where possible, whether specified or unspecified on customer drawings.
All or parts of these procedures can modified by customer request of by
a customer history of previous requirements.
-
Quality Control procedures for
MetaLLife
includes our proprietary
Peen-ScanÒ
to assure total minimum 200% coverage of the parts along with a close visual inspection both before and after processing.
(*We recommend the use of dummy core pins inserted by the customer for areas where it
is important to close radial cracks or maintain flatness of the surface around a hole)
